Effective Weight Loss Program

I used to go to the gym every day and exercise on all the cardio machines there are in there, treadmill, rowing machine, bicycle, stepper, you name it. Most people who exercise get really bored after a short time. Running on a steady pace on a treadmill is not exactly what I call fun. The other problem you will face is that after a few weeks your body is getting bored as well as you are and that is when it is time to change your training regime. Even if you do your exercises at home, using weights and doing squats, dead lifts etc. your body will get used to your training regime after a period of 4-8 weeks.



Time To Give Your Body Some Stimulation

I was looking online for a program that will do just that – offer me a fun way to exercise while getting results and this is when I came across a program called Truth about Six Pack Abs written by Mike Geary which I review extensively HERE. Here are some specific ideas to stimulate your training regime.

Most folks out there would do 3 exercises comprised of 10-12 reps per exercise, with 2-3 minutes rest between each exercise.

Are you bored yet?!

Here are 9 ideas to stimulate your training regime:

  1. Stop boring your self. Instead of the usual 3 sets of 10-12 reps, try 10 sets of 3 reps each, with only 20 seconds rest between sets
  2. Start entertain your self. Do 6 sets of 6 reps each where you lift a fairly heavy weight. Because each set is very short, do a 3 minute treadmill sprint in between each set.
  3. Time to challenge your muscles. Grab a weight that you can barely lift and do 10 sets of only 1 rep each, and have a 30 seconds rest between each set.
  4. OK, time to give your muscles rest. Now grab a lighter than normal weight but do only one set of 50 reps.
  5. Do a single exercise for the entire training. Do a one full body exercise such as barbell clean & push presses or dumbbell squat & presses and do nothing but that for a full 20 minutes, there is your workout for the day
  6. Do not have weights? Do body weight exercises. Try a body weight workout where you do push ups, pull ups, chin ups, dips, running up and down stairs and so on
  7. Time to go crazy. Do a circuit of 12 different exercises that cover the entire body, and do not rest between each one
  8. Time to go crazy and stimulating. Do the same 12 exercises where you do one exercise at maximum speed and the next one at super slow speed. That will keep your body thinking what is happening to it and will elicit a great response to a stimulation. You lose weight.
  9. Alternate your weekly training regime. Do one week of 30 minutes workout each day over 6 days and the next week 1 hour workout each day over 3 days only, that will keep your body wondering what the heck is going on, it will stimulate quite a few things

There are many more ways to continue changing your your training variables, this was just a taste of what you can do to make your exercise much more fun, something you would actually look forward to. Be creative and get results.

Cardio to Lose Fat

I used to go to the gym a lot and do all those boring routines where I jogged on a tread mill for 20 minutes and then another 15-20 minutes on a cross trainer and then the bicycles and the rowing machine and ohhhhh my god is this boring. I mean when you do all this you often watch TV at the same time or reading the latest trashy gossip magazine just to know what is Britany Spears is doing lately, and forgive me if I did not spell her name correctly, I did not really bother checking hop it spells.


According to scientists old fashioned cardio exercises are not only boring but can also cause damage to your body.

Here are just some of the bad side effects of traditional steady pace cardio exercises:

  • An increase of free radical production in the body
  • It may degenerate joints
  • Reduces your immune function
  • It cause muscle waste
  • Can cause pro-inflammatory response in the body and that in turn may cause chronic diseases

Looking at all these side effects plus the fact that traditional cardio is boring makes me to not want to do exercise at all and the hell with weight loss.

Good Fun Cardio Workout You Can do At Home

There are many cardio exercises that you can do at home or around home, with little or no equipment at all that will burn far more fat and calorie in your body than the old steady pace traditional cardio. I am talking about highly variable cyclic training.

For example you can play competitive sports such as football, basketball, racquetball, tennis, hockey, etc. These type of sports are all comprised of highly variable stop and go motions. If you look at all the basketball, soccer and other sports players, they are all well built, muscly looking people. This is because all their training as well as when they actually play a game is made of bursts of excursion followed by a recovery period.

Playing a ball game is fun! Jogging for half an hour on a treadmill or any other cardio machine is DEAD BORING!

Playing a ball game will initiate a lot of positive reactions in your body that will make it to burn a lot of fat and calorie. Jogging on a treadmill or any other cardio machine may damage your body as outlined in the ball points above.

Now do not get me wrong here, if you go to the gym regularly and enjoy your cardio machine workout and seeing benefits from it, by all means, carry on doing that, all I am saying is that there are far more beneficial and fun cardio workout methods that you may want to consider.

Finally I would like to give you a series of intervals you can do … on a treadmill. If you are in the gym every day you may as well get some fresh ideas as to what you can do on a treadmill that would benefit you and your body much more than just a boring 30 minutes jog.

  • Warm-up for 3-4 minutes at a fast walk or light jog
  • Interval 1 – run at 8.0 mi/hr for 1 minute
  • Interval 2 – walk at 4.0 mi/hr for 1.5 minutes
  • Interval 3 – run at 10.0 mi/hr for 1 minute
  • Interval 4 – walk at 4.0 mi/hr for 1.5 minutes

Repeat those 4 intervals 4 times for a very intense 20-minute workout.

In my homepage I review in full a program called Truth about Six Pack Abs that is written by Mike Geary and is providing you with tones of fun exercises you can do at home and a specific diet composed of really tasty food you can eat in order to lose weight. Truth about Six Pack Abs is great for those of you who do not have time to attend a gym because you have kids at home or because you cannot afford all the associated costs related to a gym subscription. Below are just 3 exercises recommended by Geary that will already make changes in your body and start burn calories and fat for you.

  • Body weight Workouts. One or two body weight workouts per week, done at home are awesome because you can get a high intensity workout that takes only 15-30 minutes, all done at home. Body weight squats, pushups variations, lunges and floor abs are great exercises and you want to have very short rest periods between each one or none at all since this is a brief workout. And just in case you are more advanced you can do more challenging exercises like hand stands pushups, one-arm pushups and also one-legged squats
  • Ring Training. Get yourself a portable gymnastic rings, go to a football or rugby field goal crossbar or find any other high bar and throw the straps over the bar and do exercises like ring dips, ring pushups, ring pullups, hanging leg raises, horizontal body rows, L-sits etc…doing ring exercises makes them much harder to do while incorporating your stabilizer muscles to a higher degree. Ring exercises would make your joints move in a far more natural pattern and can even help you prevent or recover from a shoulder injuries. Mike tells me that when he tries dips on a normal dip stand it hurts his shoulders. When he does dips on rings it feels normal, pain free and also gives him a much better muscle pump.
  • Swimming. Swimming will stress your muscles and joints differently than many other resistance training. And like all other styles of workouts I talk about here you want to go for a sprint style swim. Simply sprint swim to the other side of the pool and rest for 20-40 second to catch your breath then sprint swim again. Swimming strokes you can try are – crawl, breast stroke, side stroke, back stroke and butterfly. Swimming is great for what I call an muscle workout hangover. When you train with weights there is always a level of soreness the day after, but this is not the case with sprint swimming as it does not have an eccentric movement which is the negative portion of a lift which is what cause your muscles to be sore. A point to make is that even though swimming is great and works your muscles out it does nothing to strengthen your bones and that is where weight training comes in. You can incorporate about half hour of swimming – maybe twice a week.
