Helthy Carbs – Good Carbs VS Bad Carbs 5 Ways to Eat Carbs and Lose Weight

by Roy on January 5, 2011

Good carbs can make you burn fat, they are good for you. Bad carbohydrates will make you store fat, they are bad for you.

In this article I will give you a list of bad carbs:

Cereals, pasta, white rice, bagels, muffins, breads (even the wholegrain varieties), soda, juices, candies and crackers.

Even if you workout as hard as you can it is impossible to lose body fat if you eat these type of carbs. The reason is that you put far more calories in your body than you burn out in your exercise. The other problem with eating lots of carbs is that it actually increase your cravings and appetite and make you eat more carbs.

So lets have a look at potatoes. Many people think that they are not good carbs. Of course if you deep fry them they will add no nutrients to your body but if you cook them as a whole either in water or in the oven (I prefer water as I follow the Chinese tradition) whole potatoes are a great nutrient – dense healthy food!

Now lets look at bread. Many bread companies market whole grain bread as healthy brown bread. The first ingredient in all these breads is refined flower, and that will shoot your blood sugar very high – encouraging your body to store fat.

Here are 5 ways to lose weight with carbs:

  1. Reduce your grain based carbs. Stop eating cereals, pasta, rice, especially white rice, crackers, whole grain breads, etc. Instead, eat healthy grass fed and – or free range eggs and meat, grass fed raw dairy products, and a lot of fruits and vegetables.
  2. Stop consuming grains for carbs. Get your carbohydrates from fruits and vegetables, sweet potatoes and all berries. Do not drink fruit juices unless it is Mona Vie or Goji or any of those fruit juices, as all fruit juices are basically just colored and sugared water with no nutrients in them.
  3. If you really need grains then: have germ and bran. These are nutrient dense and fibrous portions of the grain and what it means is that the best parts are getting oat bran instead of oatmeal, and using rice bran and wheat germ. If you are gluten intolerant then beware of gluten in these grains. You can add them to yogurt, salads, soups and so on. This is how you will get the benefits of the grains without the excess startches and calories. Further, if you sprout grains you even better off.
  4. Need replacing the void? Eat more healthy fats such as avocadoes, nuts, seeds, nut butters, (my favorite is macadamia butter), and also healthy protein like – raw-grass fed dairy and meats, whole free range organic eggs etc. These type of food will satisfy your appetite, prevenring you from eating more carbs which is sugar.
  5. Combine all the above. If you follow these guidlines and even research about them a little more you’ll start see some changes in the way you feel  as well as in your energy levels.
